At Warstones Primary School, we take great pride in our commitment to helping pupils of all ages improve their spelling skills. To facilitate this goal, we have implemented a program called Spelling Shed. This serves as a valuable resource in aiding pupil progress.
Our approach involves teaching students a new spelling pattern each week, ensuring that they receive dedicated time and attention to enhance their understanding. By offering a range of engaging activities, we encourage children to practice these patterns in dynamic and interactive ways. Moreover, these spelling patterns are integrated into our writing sessions, enabling students to apply their newly acquired knowledge in a practical context.
Recognising the importance of consistency in spelling practice, we strongly encourage children to continue their efforts at home. This additional reinforcement outside the classroom greatly contributes to the retention and recall of the words learned. To measure the effectiveness of their learning, we conduct a brief spelling test at the end of each week. This assessment provides valuable insights into individual students' progress, highlighting areas where additional support may be required.
